Mention Stambush and Get Discounted Jujitsu Lessons at New Greenway Plaza Location!
The good folks at Elite MMA are opening a jujitsu school in Greenway Plaza, and you can get a great deal just by saying "Stambush sent me." What kind of deal? You will get $100 off the cost of registration, a free first month, and a free gi! What is a gi? That is the uniform practitioners wear to learn jujitsu. It is made of very strong material because there is so much pulling. There are no gi classes, too, but I think those will be at other locations.
What is jujitsu? I can’t fully answer that question, but to me it is the art of using mechanical tricks to overpower someone, even if they are a lot bigger and stronger.
Is it safe? No, not totally safe. After all, you have to roll around on the mat with another person, so an injury could happen. I think the folks at Elite make it much safer than some other schools because of their culture of not tolerating bullies, as well as their "go slow" approach with new people. Also, my 17 year old son, Luke, has been going there since he was 9 years old, and he has had no major injuries from jujitsu (he broke his wrist playing hockey when he was 6, and he had sore knees when he wrestled in the 8th grade). My 9 year old daughter, Sassy, has been taking jujitsu at Elite for about a year. So far, she has had no injuries.
To make an appointment for a free demonstration at Greenway Plaza (it is in the Houston City Club), call Spencer Scrivner at 713-823-3480. Please remember: this deal is only for the Greenway Plaza location. If anybody wants to go to the Elite Westheimer, Kingwood, or Baytown locations, they should call 713 339-4662.
Finally, if anybody ever has any negative comments about Elite or any other vendor I recommend, please tell me. Those are things I need to hear.
Unhappy Interview
A few days ago, I interviewed a therapist from a competitor. He/she sounded OK on the phone, but I did notice it was kind of hard for me to get my point across. Still, optimistic me set an appointment anyway, and at the interview my original suspicion reared its pretty (?) head again. Conversation was not easy and free flowing like it is with a “Stambush” person. So, I had to say I was sorry, but I did not think that he/she was right for contract. I guess I could have said, “not right for Stambush” since any other agency would hire him/her, but that still doesn’t mean I think he/she was right for contract.
Did he/she pass the test? Yes, he/she did. But I kept getting cut off. Then I asked him/her, "has anyone ever told you that you talk too much?" He/she said, “I do that when I get nervous (100% of the people have had this excuse whenever I have asked them this question). So, I thought: OK…I’ll overlook it and see what else happens. Then an issue popped up where I tried to help him/her see a circumstance at work in a positive light, and he/she refused to see it in a positive way…he/she just argued his/her point. That is when I said, "You are too argumentative for contract. I don’t think you are right for contract."
This statement of mine went better than I thought. He/she did say thank you and he/she also said he/she would work on his/her issues. I could tell that he/she was very sad. I mean really? What temporary staffing agency turns a licensed person away? Only us. I believe that 100%.
Parting shot? As we were walking out of the restaurant, the therapist mentioned that he/she had a therapist friend who said he/she had heard "bad things about Stambush." I told her that we do have our enemies because we do terminate people if we think they are not good for us.
They Said it About Stambush…. “Stellar” and “a Company That Cares About Who They Hire”
In light of the above article, I thought you all should know that I talked to two more applicants over the weekend. One was a returning therapist from 2006, and he/she said that he/she wants to return because our reputation is "stellar." The other applicant was attracted to us because he/she saw on our website that we had a competency test. He/she specifically said, "I want to be part of a company that cares about who they hire." So yes, we will lose people from time to time, but that is what we have to do to be the best agency. Unlike many (if not all) other agencies, we actually care about who we hire.
